Blackwell Maritime Intelligence Ltd (“Blackwell”, “we”, “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals who use our platform and visit our website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share personal data in connection with the Blackwell Services.

Account data: name, email address, job title, organisation, and login credentials when you register for the Services.
Usage data: information about how you interact with the platform, including pages accessed, features used, session duration, and device and browser information.
Crew and personnel data: where your organisation inputs crew records, certification data, and personnel information into Blackwell modules such as Athena, this data is processed on behalf of your organisation as data processor.
Communications data: messages, support tickets, and correspondence you send to Blackwell.
Vessel and operational data: fleet tracking data, voyage records, cargo data, and operational logs associated with your account.
2. How We Use Your Data
We use personal data to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Services
- Authenticate users and maintain account security
- Send service notifications, product updates, and support communications
- Comply with legal obligations, including sanctions compliance and regulatory reporting
- Conduct anonymised analytics to improve platform performance
We do not sell personal data to third parties.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on the following legal bases:
- Contract: processing necessary to provide the Services under our agreement with you
- Legitimate interests: improving the platform, fraud prevention, and security

Account data is retained for the duration of the subscription plus a 90-day deletion window post-termination. Crew and operational data retention periods are governed by the Data Processing Agreement with your organisation.

We share personal data with:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf (cloud infrastructure, analytics, support tools) under appropriate data processing agreements
- Regulatory bodies and law enforcement where required by law
- Acquiring entities in the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to equivalent privacy protections
All third-party processors are contractually required to maintain appropriate security measures and use data only as instructed.
6. International Transfers
Where personal data is transferred outside the UK or European Economic Area, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by relevant data protection authorities.
7. Your Rights
